PHALACROCORACIFORMES: Anhingidae
Anhinga novaehollandiae
Cuttaburra Crossing, in far western Queensland, is a permanent waterhole alive with birds.
This darter speared his fish, then tossed and caught crossways, tossed it again reversing the fish's direction in its bill, and finally tossed it and caught it head-first swallowing it whole.
The meal was more successful for the darter than an earlier attempt when the darter caught a larger fish, struggled to control it, and was mugged and robbed of its catch by a Great Cormorant.
